
Local Action Strategies:
Lack of Awareness
There are three goals for the Lack of Awareness LAS.
Goal one is to build awareness of the importance of coral
reefs and teach and encourage positive behaviors that will
protect and nurture them. Goal two, promote understanding
of the value of coral reefs locally. Goal three, increase
coral reef education for visitors through hotels, cruise
ships etc. The following projects were selected to
address this goal. Several projects have been funded and
initiated. Others have yet to be funded and offer
potential for collaboration or additional initiatives.

- Efforts are currently underway to work with science
teachers more extensively and provide more comprehensive
coral reef curriculum through the Virgin Islands Network
of Environmental Educators (VINE).
