Virgin Islands Network of
Environmental Educators |
|
The Virgin Islands Network of Environmental Educators (VINE) was formed in August 2004, with the mission of
supporting sustainable use of natural and cultural resources in
the U.S. Virgin Islands through environmental education. VINE
has partnered with 28 agencies throughout the U.S. Virgin
Islands to provide support and resources for comprehensive and
coordinated environmental education programs; to compliment
existing environmental programs; and to promote the development
of a more comprehensive environmental education curriculum.

The St. Croix East End Marine
Park Video |
|
A 28-minute program that blends science and current
marine issues with vibrant images of Crucian sea life,
culture & music, children, fishing, recreational
activities, beaches, and the undersea world. The video
can be shown in schools and the community with post
screening discussions and/or activities. Copies are also
available from the Division of Coastal Zone Management. |

Snorkel Clinics |
|
A snorkel clinic sponsored by is available for kids
participating in Learn to Swim programs. The clinic is
designed to teach kids snorkel safety and expose them to
basic marine ecology. Contact us if you have a “Learn to
Swim” program and want us to bring our snorkel clinic to
your swimming pool. |

Christiansted Boardwalk Outreach Information Center |
|
An outreach information center is being developed on the
Christiansted boardwalk. The Club Comanche sugar mill is
being renovated for use as marine park outreach and
education site. This area is ideally situated for
disseminating educational and outreach products to
visitors and residents. Look for site renovation to
begin in 2006. |

Mobile Outreach and Education Van |
|
A van
is being purchased and retrofitted for use in a mobile
environmental education program. Look for us in 2007 to
come to your school or community center. |

Science Gets Fun at Camp Keep
Summer Camp
|
|
The Department of Planning and Natural Resources,
Divisions of Coastal Zone Management, Energy and
Environmental Protection partner annually to host the
“Kids for Energy and Environmental Protection” or Camp
Keep summer camp. Children from 11 to 14 years old on
the islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix participate in a
program designed to make science fun and learn about
renewable and efficient energy, pollution, environmental
protection and marine resource conservation. Look for
Camp Keep next summer offered through the UVI
Cooperative Extension Service and 4-H Family & Consumer
Sciences Program or contact us for more information.
