St. Croix East End Marine Park
The St.
Croix East End Marine Park was developed and adopted by Virgin
Islanders to protect and conserve our coral reefs. As we know,
whatever we do on our coastline affects our ocean.
Taking too
many fish, leaving garbage on the beach, and taking sea turtle
eggs damages our marine life. A marine park will help us
protect our environment by managing our activities.
The park
will surround the East End of the island and protect animals
where they live. With the marine park we will be able to enjoy
our marine life now and with our families in the future.
Our park has
hundreds of marine animals and fish! Some of the most common
are
corals,
octopus,
barracuda,
parrotfish,
endangered sea turtles, and
angelfish. These animals live in the
major
Park Ecosystems, such as coral reefs,
mangroves, sea grass beds, and turtle nesting beaches.
