Local Action Strategies

U.S. jurisdictions with coral reefs ecosystems were guided by the Coral Reef Task Force under the Puerto Rico Resolution to adopt initiatives or create programs promoting the sustainable use of reefs.  

The Resolution calls for the development of three-year Local Action Strategies (LAS) focusing on the conservation of coral reefs.  Within the U.S. Virgin Islands, a public participatory process to identify LAS priority focus areas; Over Fishing, Recreational Use, Lack of  Awareness and Land Based Sources of Pollution.  

For the initial implementation period in the USVI, all LAS initiatives have been focused within the St. Croix East End Marine Park.  To learn more about specific LAS initiatives click on the appropriate priority area below.
