The goal of the Land Based Sources of Pollution LAS is to reduce nonpoint source pollutants in watersheds contributing to the marine park The following projects were selected to address these goals. Several projects have been funded and initiated. Others have yet to be funded and offer potential for collaboration or additional initiatives.

Funded Projects-Currently being implemented by Virgin Islands Division of Coastal Zone Management (VICZM)

• Assessment of major sources of sedimentation - identification of unpaved roads – out on RFP

• Review historic data via core samples and correlate with historic land uses – out on RFP

• Analyze construction trends in watersheds on a yearly basis – out on RFP 

• Compile results of the previous 3 projects into a layered GIS format to include meteorological data – out on RFP

• Hire additional CZM Permit Inspectors – CZM program initiative 

Priority future projects for the Marine Park (VICZM and/or collaborators)

• Conduct BMP demonstration projects with farmers

• Educate and emphasize BMP usage with homeowners – CZM program initiative
