Local Action Strategies: Recreational Use 

The goal of the Recreational Use LAS is to reduce the impacts of recreational use of coral reef systems within the marine park.  The following projects were selected to address these goals.  Several projects have been funded and initiated.  Others have yet to be funded and offer potential for collaboration or additional initiatives. 

Funded Projects-Currently being implemented by Virgin Islands Division of Coastal Zone Management (VICZM)

  • Establishment and Installation of Mooring Buoy System for EEMP – under contract 

  • Conduct a Vessel use Assessment and develop a strategy to address critical vessel use concerns and boating-related issues in the EEMP – out on RFP

Priority future projects for the Marine Park (VICZM and/or collaborators)

  • Solid waste and sanitation project
